Established 10 New York State Centers of Excellence that train CHAMP Providers through a mentorship in child sexual abuse evaluation. Each Center is headed by a child abuse expert and serves as a regional resource.
Trained a total of 9 physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants to be Providers of child sexual abuse evaluations. Since 1999, CHAMP has trained over 50 NYS medical professionals to be CHAMP Providers.
Awarded CME certificates to 33 medical professionals for successful completion of the self-study course Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse.
Established a quality improvement program using educational peer review of anonymous child sexual abuse cases for CHAMP Mentors and Providers.
Strengthened education and training programs to enable New York State Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) to meet the new National Children’s Alliance (NCA) Standard for medical evaluation of sexual abuse. The three additions to the standards are:
Make photographic documentation of examination findings the standard of care. (This enables peer review, continuous quality improvement and consultation.)
Implement training standards and continuous quality improvement for all Child Advocacy Center (CAC) medical providers to prevent diagnostic errors and ensure quality, specialized medical evaluation and treatment.
Address the medical needs of all children seen in, or through referral by, a CAC for treatment.
Surveyed providers of child sexual abuse evaluations in order to describe New York State models of care and determine medical practice recommendations for these models.

SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Annual Pediatric Teaching Day - Facing Child Abuse, June 6, 2007, and
The National Children’s Alliance Basic Medical Training Academy Pediatric Sexual and Physical Abuse including a One Day Workshop Session for Non-Medical Team Members, November 29 to December 1, 2007.
