Child Trafficking Case 7

History
A 16 year-old male presents to your office with concerns for penile discharge. You ask about the possibility of STIs, and he states that he is concerned he could have one. You assess the number of sexual partners he has had, and he states there are too many to count. You decide to ask about involvement in sex trafficking and he states that sometimes he has sex in exchange for money.

Concern
You identify the patient as being involved in sex trafficking because he has stated that he does have sex for money.

Given your concern, what would be your first step?

  1. Call the police, what he is doing is illegal.
  2. Make a report to the Child Abuse Hotline, clearly his parents are negligent.
  3. Test for STIs and provide empiric therapy given his symptoms.
  4. Refer him to psychological counseling.
