Training to Become a ProviderThe CHAMP Program offers training to become a CHAMP Provider of child sexual abuse evaluations. This education program is for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with pediatric experience who are currently practicing in New York State and hold a valid New York State license. STEP ONEYou need a CHAMP coursework account before you can register for any of the online courses. If you don’t already have an account, use this link https://www.champprogram.com/register.asp to create one. STEP TWO Register for the Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse (ECSA) course. You can use this link to register for the course https://www.champprogram.com/login.asp?course=15 The course itself is free. However, there is a $35 fee to receive 12 CME credits. Use the link on the ECSA Course Description page https://www.champprogram.com/courses.asp?course=15 to pay for the CME credits. If you are a board certified pediatrician, you can pay an additional $35 fee to earn 20 American Board of Pediatrics Maintenance of Certification (MOC) units. STEP THREE Complete the Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse course. In order to successfully complete the course, you must pass both Test Part A and Test Part B with a score of at least 80%. STEP FOUR After you have successfully completed the ECSA course, contact Linda Markell, CHAMP Manager MarkellL@upstate.edu . She will arrange for you to receive your CME credit and MOC credit, if applicable. It usually takes 4 weeks after you have paid for your CME credits and passed the course to receive a certificate. STEP FIVE Linda will also work with you to secure a mentorship at a CHAMP Center of Excellence. This mentorship will be at a site and time that is convenient to you. You will need to spend a minimum of 15 hours at the mentor site. Successful completion of this mentorship awards an additional 15 CMEs. There is no additional cost for these CMEs. The certificate you will receive is neither a certification nor a license in diagnosing and treating child sexual abuse. It is a record of CMEs earned. The cost of a mentorship varies by mentor site. It is best to have the CHAMP Program Manager assist in setting up the mentorship to assure that you get your CME credit award. STEP SIX After you have successfully completed the coursework and mentorship, you will be invited to join the New York State CHAMP Network and can be designated as a CHAMP Provider. If you questions about this training, contact Linda Markell, CHAMP Manager MarkellL@upstate.edu . |
