How to Become a CHAMP Network Member

Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with pediatric experience who are currently practicing in New York State and hold a valid New York State license are eligible to become CHAMP Network Members.

STEP ONE
You need a CHAMP coursework account before you can register for an online course. If you don’t already have an account, use this link https://www.champprogram.com/register.asp to create one.

STEP TWO
Register for the Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse (ECSA) course. You can use this link to register for the course https://www.champprogram.com/login.asp?course=15 .

The course itself is free. However, there is a $35 fee to receive 12 CME credits. Use the link on the ECSA Course Description page https://www.champprogram.com/login.asp?course=15 to pay for the CME credits. If you are a board certified pediatrician, you can pay an additional $90 fee to earn 12 American Board of Pediatrics Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part 2 points.

STEP THREE
Complete the Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse course. In order to successfully complete the course, you must pass both Test Part A and Test Part B with a score of at least 80%.

STEP FOUR
After you have successfully completed the ECSA course, contact JoAnne Race, CHAMP Program Manager, champ@upstate.edu . She will arrange for you to receive your CME credit and MOC credit, if applicable. It usually takes 4 weeks after you have paid for your CME credits and passed the course to receive a certificate.

STEP FIVE
JoAnne will also work with you to secure an observership at a CHAMP Center of Excellence. This is an opportunity to observe a child abuse expert managing sexual abuse cases. It also provides one-to-one time to review questions stimulated by the Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse course, discuss best practices related to the identification and management of child sexual abuse, and develop a professional relationship that can become a valuable resource. Use this link to learn more about the observership purpose and objectives.

The observership will be scheduled at a CHAMP Center of Excellence that is convenient for you. You will need to spend a minimum of 15 hours at the site. In order to assure that the observership meets CHAMP requirements and you receive your CME credit award, you must arrange the observership through JoAnne Race, CHAMP Program Manager.

Successful completion of this observership awards an additional 15 CMEs. There is no additional cost for these CMEs. The certificate you will receive is neither a certification nor a license in diagnosing and treating child sexual abuse. It is a record of CMEs earned.

STEP SIX
After you have successfully completed the coursework and observership, you will be invited to join the New York State CHAMP Network and can be designated as a CHAMP Network Member.

If you have questions about this educational opportunity or the requirements to become a CHAMP Network Member, contact JoAnne Race, CHAMP Program Manager, champ@upstate.edu .
