Description: This course provides education in evaluating child sexual abuse. It is also the first step for those who would like to become a CHAMP Network Member or are in the CHAMP Residency Training Program.

Completion of the course does not constitute, imply, or bestow certification in evaluation of child sexual abuse.

Objectives: Learning Objectives

Describe how to determine whether a child needs an emergent, urgent or scheduled evaluation of suspected child sexual abuse.

Explain the steps to obtain a medical history and prepare a child for examination.

Explain how to perform and document a complete child sexual abuse examination.

Describe when to report child abuse and how to prepare for a court appearance.

CME Statement: Target Audience: This course is designed to address the need for pediatric medical providers to recognize the signs of child sexual abuse and appropriately manage or refer these cases. This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other health care professionals who may respond to suspected child sexual abuse. Learners must pass the included test with a score of 80% or greater in order to earn CME credit.

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and SUNY Upstate Medical University.

The University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
